Q: What is involved in a bibliotherapy session?

A: During your 45 minute session with Dr Zewlan Moor, you’ll talk about:

  • What sort of books you like – and which ones you hate!
  • What’s going on in your life
  • Any recent events, milestones, or goals
  • What you’re hoping to learn or find out.

Q: Will I get a copy of the books?

A: No, unfortunately we can’t source the books for you. But all the books your bibliotherapist recommends are easily available in libraries and bookstores (i.e. nothing really obscure!)

Q: Do I have to read the books?

A: You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. Your prescription is a personalised recommendation of books that we believe can help you at your current stage of life. Take your time, enjoy them, and maybe prepare to be surprised.

Q: Do I have to keep a book diary or make notes?

A: This is not necessary, but it can be very helpful. Try the following:

  • jot down quotes that intrigue or infuriate you
  • note down any feelings or responses you have to characters, settings, scenes
  • record your reading progress; are you reading more or less than before? How does that make you feel?
  • have more to say? Use the voice recorder on your phone to talk about the book;
  • no one needs to ever hear it but you!

Q: Will there be a follow up?

A: This is entirely up to you, but we feel it is really useful as it can help you to talk through any emotions, feelings, worries or solutions that came up during your reading. It is also an opportunity to look more closely at the text, in a sort of private book-club.

Q: I don’t need ‘therapy’, I just love books! Is bibliotherapy for me?

A: Absolutely! Bibliotherapy is for anyone who wants to engage with books on a different level. ‘Therapy’ means different things. It can be a form of counselling, but it can also be therapeutic, like a luxurious spa. You can take from it whatever you need.

Q: Is a Medicare rebate available?

A: In certain situations, yes, this can be available. Please contact us for more information.
