Frontal headshot of Dr Zewlan Moor.Hello! I’m Zewlan Moor.

Welcome to Byron Bibliotherapy. I started Byron Bibliotherapy after feedback from patients who found it helpful when I recommended specific fiction works to them. This practice came out of my background as a GP with multiple interests, mainly related to literature, literacy and reading.

Like many of you, I’ve found solace in books during difficult periods of my life. And as a GP, I’ve found reading to be useful for many of my patients as well. I really believe that for many people, the right book at the right time can provide guidance, advice and support. It’s been an interesting path to get here.

During my Medical degree at the University of New South Wales, I also decided to study literature. I wrote my thesis on Children’s Fantasy texts, focusing on Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. After completing my medical studies, my family and I settled near Byron Bay, where I work as a GP. I’m currently dividing my time between a skin cancer clinic and as a surgical assistant.

But I am still a passionate reader and writer – and I love to share the comfort and joy of reading with others. I have shared it with friends and book club, and while volunteering at the Byron Writers’ Festival. And now I can share it with my clients through Byron Bibliotherapy.

As a medical professional, I have been trained to understand the big picture of health. People who come to me for bibliotherapy – or book counselling – come away with a literary guiding hand to help them through whatever crossroads they happen to be at. And if your problems are more serious, I can ensure that you are referred on to the right person.

I’m really looking forward to this journey, and helping others along their way. If you’re interested in finding out more about bibliotherapy, click here.
